After a long wait, iOS 4.2 is finally released and available for download. It’s available now in iTunes, you have to hit the “Check for Updates” button. You might keep refreshing as changes might take time to propagate in iTunes.
Apple has just issued a press release, confirming that iOS 4.2 software update will be be publicly available today for download via iTunes 10.1. The download links aren’t live till now, hopefully they’ll be available 10 AM PST onwards. iOS 4.2 brings unification of the iOS platform for the first time since the iPad was launched.
Research in Motion (RIM) has posted a new video showing a comparison of web browsing in PlayBook tablet and the iPad. In the video, web pages on Playbook is rendering nicely and loading faster than iPad. Further Playbook’s browser can play Flash (could be a plus point for Flash fans), HTML 5 canvas and passes Acid test with 100/100 score.
RIM seems to focus on browsing experience for its user. Are you convinced with Ad?
New Twitter App for iPad and iPhone for OS 4.2 compatibility is out with official support for push notifications, Direct Messages (DMs) and @Mentions.
The official Twitter blog announced that, this updates comes with features like better short URL support, connection error fixes, more Retina graphics to the iPhone and geotagging with “one tap” and various fixes to improve the user experience for iPad.
The Beatles music library has been added to iTunes as of this morning. You can download the songs from iTunes library from 13 studio albums or you can buy complete box set for $149.
Is this what Apple was talking yesterday about? Well, I think there are other things as well coming today which really means big and exciting.
Apple just updated its homepage with a teaser “exciting announcement from iTunes” is coming tomorrow at 7 AM PST. The banner display message “Tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget”, sounds big announcement.
What could it be? Is it something related to iTunes cloud computing? or Apple changing the system system underlying the software update process? or much hyped iOS 4.2 release or subscription based service? It can be anything. You never know. Apple always has surprises for us.

Ping, a social media component tot the iTunes store, has been added to iPad. With inclusion of iPad support for Ping, user can access their streams via a Ping tab available at the bottom of iTunes app. Ping for iPad comes with Twitter integration and there’s automatic tweets for every action you perform, for e.g liking or posting something on Ping.
Ping integration in iTunes for iPad suggests iOS 4.2 is on horizon.
As expected, Apple released iTunes 10.1 for both Windows and Mac. This is required for updating iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for iOS 4.2. One of the notable feature is the ability to “Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV”.

After release of Mac OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1, we can expect iOS 4.2 very soon. Probably 16th November as rumored.
A lots of rumors have been floating around iOS 4.2 release getting delayed. The reason was the last minute WiFi bug found in iOS 4.2 GM seed for iPad, MacStories reported. The issues have been discussed on MacRumors forums, Twitter and Apple’s own discussion boards, both by users and developers.
Apple is now expected to release second GM seed of iOS 4.2 tomorrow, which is likely to be followed by at least a week of extensive testing before releasing it to public.
