Latest reports showed that sales of Apple’s 3G version of the iPad during opening weekend were pretty good. Apple launched iPad 3G in the U.S. late Friday afternoon at prices starting at $629, compared with the $499 bottom price for WiFi only.
According to Gene Munster, an analyst Piper Jaffray & Co., Apple sold about 300,000 iPad 3G units over the weekend, including pre-orders and online sales. The sales figure is more or less the same as the sale of iPad’s WiFi first weekend but the original version had a shorter pre-order period and went on sale a Saturday rather than a Friday. Although Apple hasn’t provided its own sales figures, but Best Buy said it sold out of its limited inventory of 3G models as of Sunday.
