During News Corporation’s earnings call, CEO Murdoch was proud to claim that the Journal has 64,000 active users for Wall Street Journal iPad app after its a month. “Unlike the Kindle, we keep 100 percent of the revenue from the iPad”. The app is free of cost but full access costs about $18 a month. But, subscriber are neither happy with pricing model nor with the way contents being delivered.
According to Gawker, one of them is Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Apple CEO is unhappy with the free New York Times Editor’s Choice app, mostly because it lack much of the newspapers’s content. It was Steve who hyped the New York Times when the iPad was introduced in January, but he can’t be happy that the best the paper could come up with is a nicely designed app with crippled content. Currently app has a ordinary rating of just 2.5 stars out of 5 and most of the users review was pretty negative and centered towards the content delivery.
The bottom line is not about increasing app users but to delivering contents in better way for subscriber and justify the price that is being paid.
